It is absolutely essential that you have a well stocked emergency kit on hand all year round. You should include flash lights, a portable battery operated radio, batteries, non perishable foods, bottled water, a first aid kit and medication. It is much better to be prepared well in advance and never need it than to be caught short at the last minute. We keep ours in a holdall bag in the closet by the door so it can be grabbed if we need to go in a hurry.

Keeping trees and shrubbery trimmed back to stop them being blown down and causing unnecessary damage.
